Unmarried women of the past, present, and future can acquire titles based on their age in a list from long ago. I loved the concept so much that I illustrated each title with a corresponding botanical companion (info below image). I loosely based them on tarot card layouts but wanted to create a cohesive set called Single Ladies.

Spinster (Ages 23 - 26) I paired with cotton. The title spinster holds multiple meanings, also used for those who spun cotton. Naturally it was an easy pairing.

Thornback (Ages 26 - 29) Probably low hanging fruit based on the name, but roses fit so well. Shakespeare wrote it best: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet."

Venus Death Trap (Ages 29 - 35) Carnivorous plants are a personal favorite, So when I was able to add in two of my favorite species, I ran with it. She's a man eater after all.

Lady Of the Blade (Ages 35 - 40) This title I paired with the Spider Lily. In both China & Japan, the flower symbolizes death, but can also SYMBOLIZE wisdom, which felt fitting for a woman headed to battle.

Fanged Dowager (Ages 40 - 45) I've always found orchids fascinating & felt the fangs would fit the dowager title. She's beauty and grace until you get too close, then She's all bite.

Terrified Silence, Shifting Eyes. if you speak of her, she will know and show you no mercy. (Ages 45+) She said Final Boss & means it. Paired with the deadly nightshade, Belladonna, she's death incarnate.
